The archeo-aperitif takes place in the very heart of Puglia, in the beautiful Valle D’Itria. Here you will meet Ursula, who, after spending several years in Africa and the Middle East, lives with her family in a charming complex of trulli.
You will be able to step back in time while being surrounded by the characteristic landscape of the area, consisting of vineyards, ancient olive groves, trulli and dry-stone walls.
The tasting session focuses on the cuisine of classical Roman times.
The historical recipes will surprise you with their unusual combination of flavours and aromas, combining savoury, sweet, sour and spicy to create amazing and unexpected dishes.

The menu

This archaeo-aperitivo aims to provide a multi-sectional experience of history, using food, taste and culinary experience as a means to convey history, in particular a social history of the daily life of ancient Romans of different social classes.
Ursula proposes two types of spiced wines according to ancient recipes and a buffet of ancient Roman appetizers.

  • Libum: sacrificial sandwiches according to Cato the Elder;
  • Moretum: Roman white cheese;
  • Olives;
  • In ovis apalis: eggs in almond sauce;
  • Dulcia domestica: stuffed dates;
  • “Egyptian” salad according to Apicius.
