Discovering Puglia on a bike through history and nature

Are you looking for an unforgettable cycling experience during your holiday in Puglia? Do you want to visit ancient historical sites while enjoying the charm of the Apulian landscape and natural beauty?
You are in the right place! Take a bike ride and follow us along this exciting cycling route.
The cycling experience will not be the usual ride along commercial tourist trails but a real journey back in time, from prehistoric times to the present day.
We will visit ancient Roman remains, discover unspoilt natural areas such as the coastal dunes and stop off at typical Apulian farmhouses.

The tour stops

Our long ride takes us along the famous Via Traiana, the ancient Roman road built by Emperor Traiano to connect Rome to Brindisi, providing an alternative route to the famous Via Appia.
Cycling through the Regional Natural Park of the Coastal Dunes, we will travel back in time to prehistory. The Dolmen of Montalbano, a fascinating limestone burial structure dating back to the Bronze Age (from about 3400 BC to 600 BC), is the oldest evidence of this.
Surrounded by greenery, in the heart of the Plain of thousands-year-old olive trees, we will continue our bike tour until we reach the ancient Messapian city of Egnatia.
We will visit the fascinating Egnatia Museum and Archaeological Park, housed in a picturesque location – the archaeological site is lapped by the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea.
We will then stop at the Archeolido, a beach resort located in a beautiful natural cove near the ancient acropolis of Egnatia. Just a few metres below the surface, the remains of the ancient Roman harbour lie underwater in the Adriatic Sea and can be visited by snorkelling or diving.
The stop will allow us to admire the natural surroundings and to have a packed lunch (which can be replaced by a lunch or tasting at a farmhouse). If you wish, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the Adriatic Sea (only if the weather conditions are favourable).
On the way back we will get to know one of the most characteristic elements of Puglia: its famous farmhouses. Whether rural structures or luxury resorts, they are enchanting places to stay or to enjoy guided tours with tastings of typical Apulian products or cookery courses to learn local recipes.
