Discover the ancient art of ceramics in an authentic pottery shop in Matera
Our workshop is the ideal experience to combine with a guided tour of the Sassi of Matera. You will discover the architectural and landscape beauties of the city and experience at first hand the ancient art of pottery making in an authentic ceramics studio.
During the workshop we will make a small ceramic creation by shaping and moulding on a lathe. Your creation can be customised and will be your keepsake of the essence of Lucania.
The workshop and our activities will be run by Biagio, an architect and ceramist from Lucania, who creates design objects in his shop using raw materials that are skillfully chosen and crafted by his own hands.
Terracotta and ceramic objects are part of the noble Lucanian craft tradition. In the beginning, they were objects for everyday use, such as amphorae, jugs, plates and glasses made from dried or baked clay, but over time they have become true artistic and aesthetic pieces, thanks to the painted decorations.
The workshop will allow us to learn and try out some techniques that are the result of local craft expertise.
Be amazed by the beauty of Matera, book now for this authentic and unforgettable experience.
