It is a place of unique natural charm because it includes both a long stretch of coastline and a wide strip of backdunes that also covers portions of the Plain of Thousand-year-old Olive Trees. It is a naturalistic treasure rich in biodiversity, with many varieties of animal and plant species.
The Mediterranean scrub in this protected area is one of the most varied and dense in the whole region: juniper trees, rush plants, lentisk bushes and glasswort. These ecological spots are the perfect habitat for lizards, green lizards, emerald toads and snakes.
The water basins are inhabited by coots, little egrets and grey herons.
During the hike, the different ecosystems of the protected area and the invisible thread that binds them together in a delicate balance, from the sea to the sand dunes, from the ponds behind the dunes to the fossil dunes and the monumental olive groves in the hinterland will be described.
