The itinerary<\/h2>\n

This exploratory tour of the city of Matera aims at observing the main characteristics of the two areas better known as ‘Sasso Caveoso<\/strong>‘ and ‘Sasso Barisano<\/strong>‘, more generally known as ‘Sassi’.
\nThe modern town of Matera has developed on one level, while the ancient Sassi are built on different levels within a large canyon, specifically on one of the two sides of the ravine. For this reason, the two areas are only visible when you arrive at the edge of the ravine.
\nOn the other side of the canyon, opposite the Sassi, you will find the Parco della Murgia Materana<\/strong>, with its caves, rupestrian churches<\/a> and lush Mediterranean scrub. This is the place for unforgettable panoramic walks.
\nOver the centuries, the urban area of the Sassi has undergone many processes of transformation and stratification that have made its already unique architecture even more fascinating.
